Rare batagu turtle found in Tay Ninh Province

HA NOI - The Tay Ninh Province Department of Forest Protection has captured a rare batagu turtle, a species that scientists believed had disappeared from Viet Nam.

Batagu turtles once populated the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta, but are listed in the World Conservation Union's (IUCN) Red Book as a species in danger of extinction.

The turtle weighs 15kg and is 52cm in length. It is still living, and will be returned to the wild.
